News from the Guidance Department:.

 

  • Seniors who missed cap and gown pictures, those makeups are tomorrow Wednesday, February 14th and Thursday February 15th!!

  • Attention all students taking a dual enrollment course this semester through ULM or LA Tech: It's time to start paying for your DE coursework if you are taking over the allotted amount that Ouachita Parish School Board will pay. As a reminder, OPSB is paying for the following this semester: Seniors- 3 classes, Juniors- 2 classes, Sophomores- 1 class.  If you have an overage, that cost is $150 per course that you are over, and your payment will go to ULM. You may pay by check(making your payment to ULM) and give it to Mrs. Hunt or pay online through your ULM account. If paying by check, write your full name on the memo line. Payments are due by 12:00 Wednesday, February 28. If you have a question about how much you owe, talk to one of your dual enrollment teachers or Mrs. Hunt. As a reminder, if you fail a course or withdraw from a course paid for by OPSB, you will owe OPSB $150 for that course.

  • The AAPPL or Apple test will be held on Thursday, February 29. Based on these scores, students can earn high school Spanish credits and qualify for the Louisiana Seal of Biliteracy. Many languages are offered, not just Spanish.The cost of the test is $20. Please see Mrs. Ballance in room 2207 to pick up a registration sheet or get more information. The last day to register is Tuesday, February 27th. 

  • To help everyone prepare for the upcoming state required ACT test, there will be a Practice ACT test next Wednesday, February 21st during 1st-3rd periods.

Sports News: 

 

  • Softball plays Neville at home this afternoon. This is their Regular season opener! Make plans to come on out and support these ladies. Later this week, they travel to St Fred’s.

  • Our boys’ basketball team will take on Block High School at home tomorrow to round out the regular season. 

  •  Girls basketball will be playing Ruston on the road in the first round of the playoffs. 6:30 at Ruston, Memorial Gym at La Tech. Come by Coach Morrow’s room, Room 3210 anytime between 1st and 4th period. Student tickets are $5 today through Thursday. Tickets will be full price, or $10 at the door. Come help us cheer these ladies on!

  • The baseball team plays this weekend in the Bayou Jamb tournament which is being hosted here at WMHS. We will take on West Ouachita at 5:30 PM and Ruston at 7:00 PM.Earlier in the day, at 2 PM, there will be a home run derby amongst all the teams. Come out and support for a full day of baseball! 

  • Tennis will be making the trip to Oak Grove this afternoon to continue their season.. 

  • Our Track and Field team will be having Jumpers tryouts today immediately after school.

  • Rebel and Lady Rebel Powerlifting dominated the Cedar Creek Invitational this weekend. With a majority JV lifters on both squads, they defeated Ruston, Northwood, Lakeside, Pickering, and Cedar Creek! For the Lady Rebs Ashlyn Hogan won outstanding lifter, First place Finishes were Tyler Oakes, Annabelle Primm, and Raegyn Lowery. Second place finishes were Hayley Zachry, Alexis Parker, Deisy Delgado, Chloe Garcia, Locksley Lowery. And Third place finishes were Kennedy Miller, Addyson Putnam, Jaley Weaver, Devin Canales, Savannah Magee, Sarah Bowman, Mallory Bailes. For the Rebels, Jack Hearn won Light Outstanding Lifter and Troy Smith won Heavy Outstanding lifter. First place finishes were Evan Sims, Juicy Slater, Jayden Clay, and Noah Gordon. 2nd place finishes were Cameron Ross, Jason Sanchez, Braxton Florentine, Austin Vicknair, and Noel Guerrero. 3rd place finishes were Parker Statham and Kevin Dial. We are proud of these lifters!

Club and Organization News:

  • FCS has a meeting Wednesday morning at 7:15 in the gym.

  • FFA is selling strawberries!You can purchase a flat or a half of one.The fundraiser will close this Friday, so see a FFA member if you want to get your hands on some

  • Student Life will provide supplies during lunch today for students to make a Valentine for a friend. We will have cards, envelopes, stickers, and markers available for students to make a sweet note for your friend or sweetheart. Stop by the tables at lunch to join in.

  • We would like to recognize some of our outstanding WMHS Talented Art students.

 These students’ art work has been accepted into the prestigious LSU School of Art’s  Annual Juried High School Show. Their art will be on display in Baton Rouge from March 7-April 6th.
